Tom Cullen has just been awarded Most Promising Newcomer at the British Independent Film Awards for his role in the unconventional love story, Weekend.

The critically acclaimed Weekend has already collected numerous awards and nominations, including Best Actor Award for Tom at the Nashville Film Festival, and a nomination for Most Promising Newcomer, alongside co-star Chris New, at London Film Festival.

Tom is currently filming World Without End, the sequel to the mini-series The Pillars of the Earth, alongside Cynthia Nixon, Miranda Richardson and Peter Firth.

Multi-award-winning Indie film Weekend, featuring RWCMD Acting graduate Tom Cullen, is released in selective cinemas this week. This unconventional love story between two men trying to make sense of their lives, is attracting its two lead actors plenty of critical attention.

Claudia Winkleman, and critic Danny Leigh rave about the film on the latest Film 2011: Danny calls it “a genuinely brilliant love story…a brilliant piece of film-making”, and compares it to Beyond Sunset and other classic love stories.

Tom, and his co-star Chris New, were both nominated for the BFI London Film Festival Best Newcomers Award.

Graduates Kimberley Nixon and Aneurin Barnard on the set of Hunky Dory

RWCMD graduates and students are making waves at the London Film Festival this week.

Tonight is the premiere of Hunky Dory – the musical comedy set in 1970s Swansea and featuring Minnie Driver alongside Acting graduates Aneurin Barnard, Kimberley Nixon, Danielle Branch and Aled Pugh, as well as current student Dafydd Llyr Thomas. We look forward to seeing them all spruced up in the pics from the red carpet.

The festival also features the gala premiere of Weekend, starring graduate Tom Cullen. Here’s Tom talking about the film.

Tom’s also up for Best Newcomer at the festival awards tomorrow night. We’ll keep you posted.

Acting graduate Tom Cullen is featured in the latest isue of uber-cool US magazine, Interview. (A nice mention for the college too – thanks Tom!)

Tom starred in the film Weekender, which has won nominations and awards at film festivals across the globe, including the Audience Award at the SXSW Film Festival, and Best Actor for Tom at the Nashville Film Festival.

Now he’s filming a new TV miniseries, World Without End, co-executive produced by Ridley Scott and also starring Cynthia Nixon, Miranda Richardon and Peter Firth. We can’t wait to see it.
